A few hours before the start of the summit of the six EEC countries in The Hague, many supporters of various European organisations demonstrated in the centre of the city for a rapid unification of the Old Continent. Too much optimism dampened French President Georges Pompidou. Like his predecessor Charles de Gaulle, he warned against a hasty expansion of the Community of Six.
Chancellor Brandt, on the other hand, in agreement with the representatives of the four other EEC Member States, called for accession negotiations to begin as early as 1970. "Necessary decisions cannot be evaded," said Willy Brandt, "so that our fellow citizens can once again understand that Europe is more than a question of market organisations, and so that young people can see that Europe is more than the memory of a gloomy and glorious past."
These days they were put up for sale - the official Olympic commemorative and sports medals in gold and silver. The Olympic Organizing Committee expects to raise at least 10 million marks, which will partly cover the costs of organizing and implementing the Munich Games. The machines are assembled and tested at the aeronautical plants.
ERNO space technology develops and tests the flight into space with the construction of probes, satellites such as the "Azur", and components of the European rocket. The knowledge gained in space is increasingly being applied here in other areas, such as marine technology, for example. A series of tests with the engines of the European satellite carrier Eldo A3 was completed for 37.1 seconds, using around 2,500 litres of a special fuel. Bremen has developed into an international centre for aerospace.
