Berlin meldet: Sowjets beschießen französisches Passagierflugzeug
Passagierflugzeug vor Halle. Einschüsse im Flugzeug. Zerstörte Sitze und Einschüsse in der Kabine. Zerfetzte Sessel. Schwerverletzter gibt im Krankenhaus Interview, O-Ton: "Unterwegs sahen wir, sehr hübsch und schnittig, einen sowjetischen Düsenflieger, der mit den Flügeln wackelte. Nun nahmen wir an, das wäre also irgendwie eine Ehrenbezeugung, ein Freundschaftsbeweis, da sah ich eine zweite Maschine, machte die vor mir sitzende Dame darauf aufmerksam, und die kurbelte so eigenartig, und dann blitzte es vorn so auf, und ich dachte noch, das ist das Düsenstrahlantriebswerk, und, Batsch, direkt neben meinem Sitz, das war schon ein kleiner Streifschuß am linken Oberarm. Ich stand also auf und aus alter Kommiserfahrung volle Deckung. In dem Moment auf der linken Seite ein Volltreffer, splitternde Munition oder Explosivgeschoß, und die Dame vor mir fiel wie vom Blitz getroffen auf die rechte Seite, offenbar war sie also schwerer verwundet wie ich."

01. Change of Command of the NATO Forces
Near Minden on the Weser River General Eisenhower, paid a last visit to the British troops stationed in Germany Guards of honour of the British Navy, Army and Air Force paraded in a farewell to the departing Supreme Commander of the Atlantic Pact Forces. As successor to General Eisenhower, General Ridgway was nominated Commander-in-Chief to the NATO Forces. General Ridgway is the C.I.C. of the UN-Forces in the Far East.

02. Actualities in Brief:

a. Katyn Investigation
In Frankfurt the Katyn Investigation Committee of the American Congress ended its interrogation of witnesses. All evidence points to the conclusion that the massacre of thousands of Polish officers was perpetrated by the Soviet Secret Police. The Danish physician Dr. Tramsen demonstrated the character of the shots in the neck and the handcuffing of the victims. As member of an international commission the witness had investigated the then - recently discovered mass graves in April 1543. At that time he carried away documents which he now showed to the investigation commission. In 1943 the correspondent of the Swedish newspaper "Stockholms Tidningen" Christer Jaerlund, visited the mass graves as a neutral observer. He declared that he is convinced on the as is of his Corps was a Soviet crime.

b. Industrial Exhibition
In Hanover the technical exhibition was opened by Vice-Chancellor Bluecher. In rare perfection the various products of the machine industry were assembled in a comprehensive show. The giant dredgers demonstrated their versatilitz and their astonishing speed. Thousands of foreign buyers from the whole world viewed many interesting novelties. The new television sets were shown to the visiting experts and sightseers.

c. Congress of the Free Press in Exile
The Technical Institute of the University of Berlin was the scene of the annual congress of the: International Federation of Free Journalists'' who emigrated to the West from the Communist-ruled countries. Fayor Reuter said in his speech: Original Sound: "We were and are always aware that while defending our freedom, we are also defending your freedom, for our freedom and your freedom are things which cannot be separated from each other."
The Congress was a strong indictment against the violation of human rights and the suppression of - the free press by the Communist regime the native countries of - the exiled journalists.

d. Day of the Forest
On the occasion of the "Day of the Forest" Federal President Heuss planted a young maple tree in the court yard of Bonn.
In the Whole Federal Republic this day was celebrated for the renewal o the forest and its existence as a national asset.

e. Baltic Border Patrol
In Neustadt, Holstein, the first unit of the new sea border defence o the Federal Republic was stationed, Here the nautical freshmen get special training lasting 8 weeks. The main task of this group of the sea patrol is to safeguard the baltic Sea-border against struggling attempts from the East. The equipment of this first security group comprising 27 ships will be compete towards the end of the year. The establishment of two further defence groups for this special police mission is projected.

a. Queen Elizabeth's Birthday
At Windsor Castle Queen Elizabeth Celebrated her 26th birthday. The young Queen inspected the Royal Guards, who marched into the historical Yard of castle. The little son of the Queen looks from the window. It was the only ceremony which took place during court mourning. After a speech by the Queen the Royal Brigade of Guards marched by in a birthday parade.

b. Fashion Show, Jacques Fath
Madame Fath, wife of the world-famous fashion creator Jacques Fath, and their most attractive mannequins arrived by the Orient Express in the Bavarian capital. On the occasion of a charity show the "Haus der Kunst" the spring collection of the famous fashion house was shown for the first time of particular interest era the original but no longer over-audacious neck-lines and the capes, shawls and scarfs, needed for all purposes. A brided town ended the exclusive show of French fashion.

c. Desert Festival
National festival in the Sahara. Chardais, a desert town in the Sahara, was the scene of an inspection by the French governor. The once-bellicose natives marched before the guest of honour. Kabyls and Berbers demonstrated their old ceremonies with an armoury of historical weapons and vigorous temperament.

a. ADAC Tour of Germany
Bed Reichenhall was the starting-point for the 12th ADAC Germany Tour. The cars were checked and marked and then the first automobiles went off into the night. The severe test for the standard cars produced by the German car- and motorcycle industry began. The First 650 Kilometer stretch was interrupted by a cross-country test. Commercial vehicle also participated in this test of German car production. Shortlz before the goal, the vehicles had to go through a speed-test on the Autobahn Oldenburg-Bielefeld. IT was a complete success for large and small participators.

b. Boxing: Stretz vs. Mueller
In Berlin an exciting boxing match took place. The German middle-weight champion Peter Mueller, Cologne, (in light shorts) met his challenger Hans Stretz, Erlangen. The atmosphere was charged with tension from round to round. Stretz stopped the champion's attacks with his dangerous left. The - in the third round - came the unpleasant abrupt end. Stretz, already on the floor, was hit by Muller. Peter Mueller was disqualified and Hans Stretz was pronounced the new middle weight champion.

c. Football: Tennis Borussia vs. Rotweiss Essen
In Essen the Berlin champions Tennis Borussia (in dark shirts) create a sensation. In the first half the Berlin outsiders played with amazing zest against Rotweiss Essen. Schmutzler shot the First goal. Only seconds before the intermission Essen outplayed the Berlin defence and Gottschalk drew level. After changing sides, Gottschalk made the score 2 : 1. But now the Berliners stepped up their attack. Quickly in succession 3 goals were shot which roused ovations for the Berlin guests. Tennis Borussia won by 4:2 against the favorites Rotweiss Essen. This was the first sensation in this years and-round for the, German Football Championship.
