At the Headquarters Building in Frankfurt, High Commissionar McCloy opened a meeting of the American ambassadors in Western Europe and leading officials of the American State Department. The chairman of this conference was Assistant Secretary of State for European affairs, Mr. Perkins. The American diplomats met for discussions of common problems and exchange of ideas about affairs in Western Europe. Mr. McCloy greeted the guests.

04. Milan

In Memory Of Giuseppe Verdi
50 years ago, Giuseppe Verdi died in Milan at the Hotel Milan. In the room in which he died, nothing was changed. Everything is as Verdi left it 50 years ago. This document, his last will, is on the writing-table. By virtue of this last will, an institution for aged people was built where old musicians can spend their declining days as Verdi's guests. The former stars of "Aida", "Trovatore" and "Rigoletto" remember the time when the Maestro was still living among them. In the memorial of the genius, whose spirit seems to live still in the rooms of the Villa Sant' Agata, lies the admiration of the whole world for the immortal Maestro and his immortal music.

German Sled Championship at Hahnenklee, Harz. On the one mile long track, the competitors reached considerate speed.
40 competitors raced through the winter forest. German Sled Champion 1951 is Albert Krauss, Hahnenklee. He covered the course in 2 minutes 57,2 sec.

b. Football Rapide, Vienna vs. 1.FC Kaiserslautern-TuS Neuendorf
Paul Hörbiger kicked off the ball at the game between Rapide Vienna vs. 1. FC Kaiserslautern-TuS Neuendorf. The football team from Vienna withthe striped shirts is one of the best in Europe. Sidelights of carnival. At the Firstalm, Bavaria, men and women with masks slide down the hills, At the Isar, they dance in the fashing parade. These are the last hours of carnival. With a jury of fools and dances of the witches, they await Ash-Wednesday. From Schwabylon in the South to Berlin, from Swabia to the Rhine, they celebrate the last hours. The "Last Monday before Lent" parade in Cologne is the peak of this turbulent time and the beginning of its end.
