01. the Europe travel General Eisenhowers after a last meeting adopted the Commander-in-Chief of the Atlantic forces, General Eisenhower, on the airfield in Washington President Truman. Paris was the first target of his grand tour through Western Europe.

A Proclamation By The Government About The Grotewohl Letter
During a press conference in Bonn, Dr. Adenauer read the answer of the Government of the Bundes Republic to the proposals of the Minister President of the Soviet Zone, Otto Grotewohl, suggesting discussions between the two governments. All factions - with the exception of the Communist Party - agreed with the proclamation which stresses in fact: "These men who have renounced the German districts east of the Oder-Neisse line do not appear to be the legitimate spokesmen on behalf of the re-union of Germany."
The Bundes Chancellor said "The Goverment of the Bundes Republic can only enter into discussions about the reunion of Germany with those who are willing to acknowledge and guaranty without reservation law and order on a constitutional basis, a free form of government, the protection of human rights and the maintainance of peace."

Heavy attacks by the Communist and desperate defence by UN troops mark the situation in Korea. The mass of Red Chinese and North Korean divisions forced UN troops to retreat. The Communist attack drives on with 1/2 million Chinese and North Koreans. There are bitter fights over hills and traffic centres. In spite of superior Communist numbers, surprising counter attacks take place continually. The struggle and the cold demand the toughest resistance by the UN troops.

03. Election for the Ober-Burgomaster, Berlin

b. The Berlin election for Ober-Burgomaster ended in a tie. In a secret voting, the former Oberburgomaster Ernst Reuter, SPD and the Chairman of the CDU Walther Schreiber each got 62 votes. Senate President Dr. Suhr announced this surprising result. The two candidates will confer about the principles of a government program and the make-up of the Senate.

03. Ilse Koch Trial, Augsburg

c. At Augsburg, the woman-commander of Buchenwald, the illfamed Ilse Koch, was sentenced to hard labor for life. The sentence was given in the absence of the accused who has several attacks of frenzy. Her evil influence on the camp authorities was - besides her monstrous crimes - considered by the judges and led to the sentence.

03. Exhibition of Pictures, Munich

d. Munich America House established a painting class in which children from 4 to 15 years of age learn how to paint and to model. The often-surprising results of fancy and the sense of observation of the children, together with the paintings of children of other countries, are judged during a Marshall Plan Competition. The prize for the winner is a trip to Paris, London or Rome.

Winter Games in the Winter Paradise
The VIIth International Winter Sport Week at Garmisch-Partenkirchen was full of charm and excitement. The peaceful battle for laurels in sports started. The winter paradise of the Alps showed all its splendour. After the President of the Sport Committee, Hans Kilian, the American High Commissionar McCloy greeted the sportsmen from 12 nations. In the stadium the German Champion Horst Faber opened them with an ice dance. Then, the German woman champion Helga Dudzinsky made her pirouettes. On the renewed bob-track near the Riessersee, the first climax of the winter sport week took place. The hitherto existing records were beaten 6 times. The race for the Wander Prize of the German Bob Union was won by the team of Anderl Ostler. The distribution of the prizes closed the first part of the winter sport week.

Mercedes Benz prepares for Argentina. Three racing cars of this German plant will participate in two car races in the Argentina. Karl Kling - whom you see here during training - will, together with World Champion Farina and Herman Lang, start in the races. It is the first start since the war of the Mercedes Benz team.

b. Ice Speed Race, Schliersee
At 40 kilometers per hour over the ice of the Schliersee in Bavaria, 28 contestants fought for the German Championship in the Ice Speed Race. The race went over 500, 1500, 5000 and 10.000 meters. Winner and German Ice Speed Champion was Theo Meding from Cologne. The 19-year-old will participate in the World Championship at Davos.

c. Football
It can be cold on such a winter day - but look at these man - and you will feel warm. TuS Neuendorf played against Wormatia Worms. TuS with dark shirts. The game took place at the "Deutsches Eck" near Koblenz. The first goal was shot in the 20th minute for TuS. In spite of good combinations Wormatia could not equalize. TuS won 2:0.

d. Steeplechase Race
In Florida, the racing boats ran a steeplechase. They spring like kangeroos and leap like porpoises. Everybody tries to be first and no holds are barred. The winner of this unusual race was Dick Pope, the world champion of the flying boats.
