It began thus: we were asked to join the FDJ (Free German Youth) and were told that we will not be able to pass the graduation examinations in the East Zone if we would not change our political opinions. We wanted to find out how many students were against this Herr Wilfert and against his Communist school politics and we had an election. 60 students out of 68 proved to be against continuing Herr Wilfert's lessons. After this we refused to participate any longer in Herr Wilfert's classes. Herr Wilfert made a report about this to the Landes Government, who then had a commission check the details. This commission ordered the closing down of our school and furthermore ordered our two classes transferred to other schools. We did not approve of this illegal measure and we answered with new pamphlets. But when we learned about our intended arrest we moved in a body to Western Berlin."

Sailing Week in Kiel, a traditional German sport event
More than 25 clubs from all over Germany participated with 150 yachts and sail boats. The weather was not always good and the boats had to fight against heavy seas. The Kiel Sailing Week 1950 became an unforgettable sport event for all friends of sailing.

The pre-finals of the great soapbox-derby of GYA have started. With seriousness and racing fever the boys prepare their self-made cars. The finals will take place in July in Stuttgart and the best racers from 8 nations will then fight for the "Grand Prix of Europe" in Munich. Who will win the prize offered by GYA - a flight around the world? This is the question which occupies the minds of many boys in Berlin, Rome, Paris and Vienna.

05. "Royal Wedding" Celebration at Landshut
Royal glamour and atmosphere of the Middle Agesin Landshut, Bavaria. This picturesque city on the Isar River celebrates after an intermission of 12 years her historical "Royal Wedding", which is held in remembrance of the royal wedding in the 15th Century. 900 citizens of Landshut change into knights, soldiers, pages and gentlewomen for three Sundays.
According to records 40.000 chickens, 12.000 geese, 300 oxen and huge amounts of other danties were eaten during this royal wedding. To-day they are content with dancing around happily in their old costumes. An old knightly sport-tilting.

a. Shasta Dam, California
A huge new dam was opened in California. This dam will water the dry valleys and produce electricity for this district.
The Shasta Dam ist the world's second biggest dam. Construction took 12 years. Thousands of spectators watched the water running down the spill-way for the first time. At night, this dam looks like Niagara Falls - but it is three times as big. A wonderful new product of modern technique.

b. Bears
May we introduce: Tim and Tom - young bears from the London Zoo. They lead a wonderful life - licking honey and chasing around in order to keep their figure! and then - honey again.

07. Berlin Olympic Stadium: German Football Championship 1950
Finally - the day has come for which Germany's football fans waited: the day of the final of the 39th German Football Championship. Berlin was in a football fever. About 100.000 fans came to the Olympic Stadium to see VfB Stuttgart play against Offenbacher Kickers. VfB Stuttgart in white.
And now the moment for which thousands of football fans had been waiting: the match has started. Stuttgart attacks - here the first great chance for Stuttgart - but Otterbach shoots against the board of the goal. Stuttgart attacks again and again.
