5 years 'World in the film' the weekly news "World in the film", shortly after the end of the war, commits these days the anniversary of its five-year existence. During this time she has reported as chronicler about what was interesting, important and worth knowing.
On the occasion of the fifth anniversary, we show first a selection of image reports from the beginnings of 'World in the film' a dramatic review: Germany in 1945.

1st spring 1945. The war was over. All Germany was a shambles. The heritage named Hitler era: total destruction.
On the rubble of their homes, many on abandoned acknowledged women Berge of debris.

The first prisoners of war were released from Allied camps: to harvest work on the home farm. After a long time there was again happy faces. The men expected a triple luck: return to the family, freedom and peaceful work.
Things began to improve.
The waterways were cleaned up. The schools started again their teaching - often in ruins, where the debris is still piled. Here it was: create even hand to prepare the Notdürftigste.
Also new life and new zest for life is moving on elsewhere. The first sports matches were played.
What was is there anything of value, has been processed. The first, simple toy was created from waste wood.

The Secretary of State Acheson, Bevin, Schuman and others emphasized their determination to reintegrate Germany into the community of free peoples of Europe and to transfer the largest possible sovereignty of the Federal Republic.

b. ERP posters a poster competition of the ERP was the theme: improvement of life standards through inter European cooperation.
The five best posters were awarded from 1700 submitted designs, German painter and graphic artist.
The appearance of a pictorial international chef was awarded the first prize.
The award-winning designs now go to the Pan European competition to Paris.

Industry and traffic were ruined as was the whole country. Totally destroyed transportation plants, blown up tracks. Slowly things were cleared up and reconstruction began.
Millions of DP's were repatriated.
Millions of people were homeless. They sat in the ruins of their properties and waited - without knowing for what. Daily life gave unforgettable scenes. Then came the first trains. But - they were more than a bad night mare. Every small piece of the footboard had to be fought for.
Curfew. Nobody was to leave the house at night. But with daylight life came back to the villages and cities and everybody waited, waited - for something new to happen. Soldiers and officials of Military Government gave instruction and advice.
A new profession was created from the common misery of the year 1945: the black market. Prohibition, penalties and raids could only cut it down but were not able to stop it. The first prisoners of war were released from allied camps: they were to help in the harvest on their farms. Happy faces after a long time. Those men were to return to their families, to liberty and peaceful work.
Waterways were repaired, schools started again - very often in ruined houses, and everybody had to help.
New life and new joy in life - the first sport.
The first simple toys were made from old wood.
Mental freedom gave impetus to new developments; among the first representatives of the democratic press: today's Bundes President Professor Heuss.

The symbols of the past disappeared
Another trade created by misery: the exchange offices-shoes for household articles, a radio for a suitcase. Industrial work began in a primitive but symbolic way: pots and strainers were made from helmets - war material was turned into the most necessary articles.
Five years ago - bus this was Germany in 1945.

02. Oberammergau:

The Passion Play
The Passion Play of Oberammergau has begun. Here are the last rehearsals. According to an old tradition the natives of Oberammergau are the first to see the world famous religious play. The banishment from Paradise. Jesus comes to Jerusalem cheered by the people. Jesus drives the merchants from the temple. Christ and the high priests.

03. Actualities in Brief:

a. Conference of the Foreign Ministers in London
The London conference is finished. Acheson, Bevin and Schuman pointed out their determination to bring Germany into the community of the free nations of Europe and to give the Bundes Republic greater souvereignty.

b. ERP-Posters
Subject of the ERP Poster Competition was: Better living standards through inter-European cooperation. Out of 1700 posters the 5 best posters were awarded prizes.
This poster - showing a cook - was given the first prize. The best posters are being sent to Paris for the European competition.

c. Missionaries for Africa
For the first time since the end of the war the Catholic Church sends missionaries to Africa. Bishop Dr. Kempf says good-bye to them at Rhine-Main Airport Frankfurt. The bishop blessed the plane after a short speech.

d. Princess Fatima
Princess Fatima, the sister of the Shah of Iran, was married in Paris to the American Lee Hillyer. Aga Khan, Rita Hayworth's father-in-law, was witness. The young American Student becomes by this marriage a Persian Excellency.
A romance has come to a happy end.

Sports:

Conny Rux beats Lloyd Marshall
The crowded Waldbühne at Berlin saw this thrilling fight between Germany and America: Conny Ruxand the Negro Lloyd Marshall. Max Schmeling was referee. Marshall demonstrated from the beginning his high quality but he was unlucky.
His eyebrow was cut in the first round by Conny Rux. The wound bled heavily. Marshall cannot see properly and Rux has his chance. The American has to give up in the second round by order of the doctor. Winner by k.o.: Conny Rux Conny Rux proves, in spite of this fight which he won by luck, that he can mix it with international fighters.

b. Tottenham Hotspurs - Arminia Hannover
A weekend with great football games. The famous English club Tottenham Hotspurs (white shirts) was the guest of Arminia Hanover. The English were superior from the beginning and made three goals during the first 10 minutes. But then Hanover came up, but all attacks were stopped by the British guests. They won 3 : 0 - a great demonstration of English football.

c. Western Germany - Northern Germany
The best teams of Western and Northern Germany met in Cologne before 30.000 spectators. North Germany white shirts.
The West was favorite as North Germany had to play without their team members from the Hamburg Sport Club. But the North came up after half-time and they went ahead, 4 : 1. The West then made two goals, but the game was over before they could even the score. This match, which was the third after the war between these two clubs, ended 4 : 3 for the North.

d. Hockenheim Race

May-Cup Race on the Hockenheim
400.000 people saw all the German motorsport favorites at the start. The duel between Georg Meier and Heiner Fleischmann was center of interest. But here comes the sensation: both crashed on the same curve - in the 13th round! Ludwig Kraus won. The car race was also very thrilling - especially in the two-liter class. Adolff, Aachen, and Helfrich, Mannheim had a tough duel. A dramatic accident - but nothing happened. Helfrich, Mannheim, won the race with a new record of 162,8 kilometers per hour.
