Day after day freighters bring building material, machines, vehicles, clothes medicaments and food from overseas. Besides that Greece will also get support by the Marshal Plan.

02. News Flashes from Germany:

a. International Club
Hamburg's City Hall was the scene of the foundation of the International Club, Hamburg. The presidents are Vaughan Berry, British Regional Commissioner for Hamburg, and Burgomaster Brauer.
Besides the cultivation of intellectual and cultural interests this club will help to improve relations with foreign countries. The founders of the International Club are representatives of foreign Missions in Hamburg as well as important persons of the Hanse town.

b. Westphal Barges
To improve transportation of coal Dr. Westphal constructed a new barge the size of a vestibule car which can hold 120 tons of coal or more.
Several of those pipes are combined to make the barge. Special boats are fastened at top and end of this float, but ordinary tug boats can be used.
A normal fleet of barges with 1/6 of the crew 1/10 of the cost.
The transport pipes can be manufactured anywhere - - and no wharf is needed.
Simple deviced steer these huge b[...]rges. Special cranes unload the 120 ton contents within ten minutes.

c. Football, Hamburg vs Berlin

a. Walcheren
The population of the Dutch island of Walcheren had an unusual day. In the last period of war Walcheren was flooded by the destruction of its dykes.
Together with Princess Regent Juliana the British Prime Minister Attlee had come to the small North Sea island. After reestablishment of the dykes the island is now being planted to stabilize the ground.
Prime Minister Attlee addressed the audience and spoke of the landing of British troops near Westkapelle, and then planted the first tree. With the Princess Regent he walked to the new dykes. The new trees will help to make Walcheren what it was once [...]o: the fertile garden of Holland.

b. Lord Mayor's Show
London held the Lord Mayor's Show according to tradition. A public festival for - old and young.
The guards of the tower accompany the 400-year-old golden coach on its drive through the City.
The traditional Lord Mayor's Show this year was dedicated to the work of the farmers who care for the nourishment of the metropolis: at present a very vital problem for the whole of England.

05. For the Youth:

German Youth Activities
In towns and in the country the letters GYA are seen very often now: it is the abbreviation for German Youth Activities, the relief work of the U.S.Army for German Youth. After the end of the war this programme first was begun unofficially. One and a half year ago the care of German Youth was included in the programme of occupational tasks. Clubs were established in which children assembled for play and discussion. At present there are 177 youth homes. 600 Members of the U.S. Forces are in Charge of the youth clubs - thousands more assist in their hours of leisure. Boys and girls join these clubs voluntarily.
An allround sports programme is one of the basis of GYA. Sport equipment and clothes are given by the U.S.Army.

06. Germany to-day:

Stations
At the beginning and the end of any travel is a station. But today the stations are more than that. They are the focal point of the migration of nations, a mark of our restless time. Never before in the German history of traffic have such masses of people travelled by rail. It is a continuous pushing and chasing and waiting. The stations are crossroads. In Hamburg a former arraid shelter houses the strangers and homeless people for a short time. Here, cold people have a warm place. The hungry get a meal, and the tired have a place to lie down. Here, in the restless station, lige calms down for a little while. The restaurants of some stations, like the one in Munich already give a peace time impression.
Before the station traffic reaches its climax and statistics report that most accidents happen near the stations. The fight for a streetcar ride often is the last lap of journey.
Amidst the busy places are quiet islands - waiting for something or for nothing - -
Before entering the station the trains go slow: also the coal trains. For this lost the coal thiefs risk their lives.
