In the near future the other divisions of the US Zone and the British Zone will join the same Operation.
Joseph Seifried, Bavarian Minister of the Interior, answeres some questions for the Newsreel:
1st question: What is new about this operation?
Answer: "The State is in charge; that means that all facilities and establishments of the State can be used to carry it through. This means that authority is given for an entirely uniform and extensive process."
2nd question: What is the aim of the operation?
Answer: "First, to find out the total number of POWs and missing persons. In Bavaria alone this inquiry concerns about one million people, that is 10 % of the population."
3rd Question: Is this only a Statistical inquiry?
Answer: "No, this operation shall and will help accelerate the return of POWs and the finding of missing persons. This operation should result in bringing families together again.

02. In Memory of Beethoven
This year the world celebrated the 120th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's death. His birth-place in Bonn o/Rhine survived the war undamaged. Many visitors from all countries come to this place, which houses many personal belongings of Beethoven.

Countess Brunswick and Countess Guicciardi - both played important roles in Beethoven's life.

03. Summer in Bavaria
Every year, when summer comes, the cows and goats in the Berchtesgaden district take a boat-ride. Then the town of Königssee becomes a little harbor. Head after head of cattle is taken on board. Then the seamen in their leather shorts steer the freight across the lake. They pass the mighty east wall of the Watzmann Mountain and the chapel of St. Bartolomae, and arrive at the end of the lake. Here they disembark. On the Salett Alps the cows stay for a little while. After a month the dairymaids bring them to the higher levels. When the mountain drive begins, summer has come in Bavaria.

a. Auriol and Churchill
The President of the French Republic, M. Auriol, took part in the ceremonies held in honour of the Maid of Orleans.
Placing the wreaths brought the official ceremony to a close. In Paris Winston Churchill received the highest military honour France can give, for his services in the liberation of the country. Prime Minister Ramadier - who himself posesses the order - gives him the Military Medal at the Yellow Tape in the Court-yard of the Invalides. Churchill was greeted with cheers by the Parisians.

b. Aleman in the U.S.A
Miguel Aleman, President of Mexico, arrived in Washington to pay a State visit.
President Truman receives the guest at the airfield.
The American Capital prepared a gorgeous reception for the head of the Mexican Republic.
The visit of Aleman showed the good will between both countries. In Mount Vernon, accompanied by Secretary of State Marshall, Aleman saw the former home and the tomb of George Washington, who lead the war for independence, and became the first President of the U.S.A.

c. Queen Mary
The mother of the King of England quistly celebrated her 80th birth-day. For many years she resigned with her late husband, King George V., and lived through the good and bad days of world-historical importance.
Here are pictures of the 25th anniversary. Queen Mary's name lives in many chanters of British history. To-day, she still is highly interested in events of the day. The British people love her as a great woman and a great Personality.

05. Problem No. 1
The food Situation is still the toughest problem of all Germany's troubles. To-day the condition approaches a crisis. Underhand malicious rumours have been spead that the help from abroad is trifling.
But figures and facts speak for themselves. For instance, at least 400.000 tons of food are imported from America to Germany every month. Every second piece of bread eaten by the normal consumer is imported and paid for by America and Britain.
Beside bread, other vital food-stuffs are brought in.
Here are recorded the shipping and unloading at the Entry ports. Owing to the magnitude of the crisis, the Allied deliveries can only solve part of the problem. They cannot abolish the crisis but they are helping millions of Germans live through this perilous time.

06. Sports:

a. Motor-Race
The first big American motor race was held in New Jersey. 25 compitiors take part in this "Small Car Derby."
They take the curves at 100 kilometers p.h.
The cameraman is on the ball - and there! - a flash for the newsreel And now the finish. No. 2 passes the tape and wins.
Bill Gentler is the winner's name, and though he is disabled, he takes part in the toughest races, and often wins.

b. Alster Run
The start of Hamburg's greatest and oldest relay race.
More than 3.500 athletes take part in this Alster race, among them teams from Oberhausen and Kiel.
In 1909 this traditional race - "Around the Alster River" - was held for the first time.
The 8 kilometers track is divided into 250 to 800 meter sections. Each team has 17 runners.
Winner is the Hamburg Sport Club gaining the prize for the 13th time.

c. Kentucky Derby
For the 73rd time Kentucky is the scene of the great Derby which is held each year. This is America's greatest racing event. Arrival of the horses. No. 8 the favourite, Phalanx.
Just before the start a thrilling incident: No, 12 drops his man and Jumps through the starting machine.
The horse is caught and brought back. 13 horses started in the race.
No. 11 Jet Fighter, darts to the lead. Favourite Phalanx is last. In the straight Phalanx gains - Jet Fighter is still leading. Entering the final stretch Jet Fighter leads. Phalanx gains more and more, and so does a third horse, No. 5. Close together they pass the winning pole. Nobody can decide which one is the winner. Nobody - but the slow motion camera, which records that No 11, Jet Fighter, was first by a nose.
For the happy owner Jet Fighter's nose means 92.000 Dollars, the big prize of the Kentucky Derby.
