The demand for incandescent lamps is enormous. The gradually ongoing electric industry can deliver only the most urgent requirements from business, academia and hospitals.
These shots of several German plants show sections of the extremely complex production path of a light bulb.
The glass bulb is undergoing a variety of apparatus, until he fulfills his destiny as a permanent and reliable light source.
The Word also applies to the lighting industry today to a large extent: necessity is the mother of invention. And these inventions to benefit the general public.
The Osramwerke in Berlin produce a so-called fluorescent lamp which - standardized on 31 Watt - emits a light intensity of 100 watt.

And so invention comes to the aid of the industry. The Berlin Osram Plant makes a "light-stuff-lamp" which is standardized at 31 watts and delivers a light of 100 watts.
A much-needed and welcome invention. Even more important is the process which repairs old bulbs. This Process was developed by the electric plants at Limburg/o Lahn and at Travemunde. The glass-bulbs are cut and get a new burning device and sockel. This is practical help for the consumer. And the industry gains to [...]e to reconstruct its factories and to solve the lack of raw material.
It will be a long time before everybody is satiesfied - but - as you see - a first friendly ray of light.

02. The British-French Pact

The signing in Dunkirk
Before their journey to Moscow Foreign Ministers Bevin and Bidault meet in the ruins of Dunkirk to conclude the British-French agreement. The treaty was signed in the City Hall, the only public building which survived five years of war and bombing.
Foreign Minister Bodault indicated the symbolic choice of the scene of the treaty-signing.
France and Great Britain were united by their common destiny. The treaty was to establish peace and security in both countries.
In his reply Bevin pointed out that this treaty was a contribution to universal peace. Both ministers expressed the hope that this agreement would soon be followed by a treaty between the Big Four.

a. German P.O
In the I.G. Farben Exhibition Hall in Hoechst the postal affairs of the united Western Zones was placed in German hands.
Chief. President Blank thanked the representative of the Allies for their help in postal reconstruction, and gave a survey of the present state of the German P.O.
The representatives of the American and British Military Governments indicated that the return of postal affairs was another step towards Germany's economic autonomy.

b. Hans Schwarz
At Berlin Palast Variety Hans Schwarz Jun.
Champion of the East Zone and former world champion in heavyweight wrestling meets Waldemar Zeisig.
Hans Schwarz is not only a master of the wrestler's art - - some years ago he found the way from the ring into the film studio and finally on the stage. At Schlosspark Theatre he plays the second servant in Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew".
And here the taming goes on in the ring.
A sign that power and intellect can meet.

c. Eel Fishing
The last film report of this winter - we hope.
When the weather allows, the fishers of the Baltic sea coast go out on the ice to catch eels. This method of spearing fish was used in the Middle Ages, and has been resumed in the food emergency.
Arriving at the fishing district, holes art cut in the ice with axes. Then with long spears the fishermen prod the ground until an eel is caught by the spear. You must be patient - - and lucky, to win a good catch. Sometimes 20 to 25 eels are caught at one place - but at other times the toil of a whole day goes for nothing. And when night comes, the eelers wend their icy way home.

d. School for Artists
The war-damaged Academy of Graphic Arts of Munich is now housed in the castle of Heimhausen near Dachau. There 70 boys and girls are housed and the rest of the pupils comes from outside to take their lessons. The classes for painting, drawing, graphic art and lithography in the class-rooms of the castle.

04. Mount Aetna boils
Europe's largest volcano, Mount Aetna in Sicily, resumed activity after many years. The villages and fertile lands below the mountain are in great danger. Police keep the inhabitants from risking their lives to rescue their belongings.
Three streams of fiery lava move down on the little town of Ponte Pisciaro. Each day brings new eruptions. And no one can control these natural forces.
The people can but pray ...

05. Ruhr-District:

The Coupon Point System
The key to Germany's reconstruction is coal. With the union of the western Zones, immediate measures were taken to increase the production of coal in the Ruhr. First the job of the miner had to made an attractive and profitable one. Increase of pay was the first step, but the best way of boosting the daily output of the mines proved to be the Coupon System.
Today each miner - according to his output - receives coupons: that means additional food and luxuries. The highest monthly extra rations are: 750 Gramms of bacon, one Pound of coffee, 250 Gramms of sugar or sweets, a bottle of "Schnapps" and 100 cigarettes. The Ruhr miners are also given priority in building material and household goods.
The miner can also use his coupons to buy clothes for himself and his family.
Since the coupons system was introduced, progressive increase in daily coal production has been evident. Thousands have come to the mines to get employment. Coal means steaming furnaces - and reviving industry.

06. Sport Oddities

a. Rodeo
Breaking-in wild horses is the sporting program of the weekend in Australia. The odd about this is that the cow boys are mostly broken-in by the horses. For they cannot stay on horseback more than a few second.
And the finish of the game is ground acrobatics ... The Sport is called Rodeo - looks very dangerous and is only a weekend pleasure of the tough cow-boys.

b. Swimming in Florida
Now we turn to a more beautiful sight - - or rather, to beauty en masse.
A parade before the prize judges.
Well, who makes a choice must bear the consequences. But this winner isn't hard to bear.
And this young high-diver is irritated by so much beauty - - so he blindfolds himself.
But after the jump he risks one eye.

c. Billiards
From beauty to skill: In Michigan the billiards champion Willie Hoppe shows how a four-cushion shot is made ...
