02. Highlights from Germany:

a. P.O.W.'s from Egypt
The British hospital-ship "Oxfordshire" arrived in Hamburg Harbour with 467 wounded and sick German P.O.W.'s aboard, coming from Port Said. This is the first return of former members of the Africa Corps from Egypt. Some of the homecomers are carried on stretchers from the ship to a waiting hospital train.
German doctors and nurses take care of the sick and wounded on their way to the hospital.
Only after they have entirely recovered will they be discharged. The greatest part of the boys are healthy and dischargable. They will be transported to special camps, and from there, home - a Xmas surprise for many families in all four zones.

b. Hospital, Bad Mergentheim
In Bad Mergentheim Col. Backjord, the Director of the Health Dept. of Württemberg Military Government, put former barracks into the hands of the Württemberg-Bader Government. These barracks, which were used for P.O.W. camps, were transformed into hospitals by M.G.

The last signs of its former use are taken away. The hospital can now house 1.000 patients. The operation hall is fitted out with up-to-date medical equipment.

c. Max Brauer
After the election the Senators of Hamburg, looking for a new Mayor, decided for the Nazi persecuted - Max Brauer, who came home from America.
The former town mayor Dr. Petersen gives him the document of naturalization. Max Brauer renounces his U.S. citizenship in order to become once more a German citizen.

d. Dog-show, Berlin
For the first time since 1943 Berlin is the scene of a dog-show - arranged in order to make a census of all pure-breed dogs left. The war has caused many victims among the dogs, too. Out of 225.000 dogs in Berlin in 1939, only 40.000 are left.
1.300 dogs were in the show - representing 700 different breeds.
A prize winner of the future ...
The master - and his dog ...
Two sizes - two breeds - one hope: to become a champion. Pure-bred dogs, police-dogs and blindman's dogs are provided with food - tickets -- and that's worth while.

03. News flashes from everywhere

a. Expedition to China
An American Superfortress has been missing two years since it untertook a flight across China.
Recently word has received that the plane had made a crash-landing in the mountains of South-west China. The survivors are reported to have been enslaved by mountain tribes. A search expedition was sent to rescue them. As far as possible the expedition travels by air - then by jeep and finally the ascent to the district of the savage mountain-tribes.
In the background the chain of the mountains in which the Superfortress crashed.
Recently a Chinese plane crashed in these mountains, too. Natives bring the dead bodies down.
The expedition will carry on to solve the mystery of the lost flyers.

b. Blizzard, USA
For 11 days a blizzard menaced the East Colorado district. Many remote farms were cut off from any communication - and thousands of animals died. The damage is estimated in millions ofdollars.
Refrigerated milk - U.S. Army transport planes were called to help. They take hay on board, and take off tu supply the snowedin farms.
It rains hay-bales - to save the cattle from starvation. The farmers know that they are not forgotten in their inter's isolation.

c. Horse-race, Australia
Summer season at its climax - thousands in Australia hurry to the racing-track to attend this years's Melbourne Cup. And the fashion show is on, too.- On the northern hemisphere these costumes would be out of season.
And now the horse-race.
35 thoroughbreds got away well, and a thrilling race begins over the 2 mile distance.
The favourite "Russia", with Jockey Munro up, is still in the middle of the field.
Now Munro passes the other challengers - takes the lead and sticks to it.
"Russia" went on to win by five lengths, making it. Derby Munro's third Melbourne Cup Victory
