1st United States: Truman honors Nisei returnees in America-born Japanese - the so-called Nisei - who fought as a citizen of the United States in the ranks of American associations in Europe, arriving back in New York.
President Truman welcomed the returnees and expresses them his gratitude on behalf of the United States.

Then he attaches an award on the flag of the Nisei Regiment, whose men have now returned to their American homes.

02. Lord Beveridge speaks in Berlin during his visit to Berlin said Lord Beveridge, the famous English social politician and creator of the Beveridge plan, at the invitation of the Berlin folk high school in the Neukölln Kindl-Brauerei. Lord Beveridge greeted the Assembly in English - that he learned on his first visit in 1907.

Then, in English, Lord Beveridge gave a lecture on "Social protection and work". While he stressed as a principle of social justice, that bread and health for all was more important than cakes and other luxury for individuals. This principle should be applied in all countries. England has implemented recently - it through the adoption of the Beveridge social plan in Parliament - into action.

03. image report from Munich reconstruction in Munich: with crane and shovel it is the rubble of five million cubic metres to tackle, remained as a legacy of the Hitler era.
Over half a million cubic metres have so far been cleared, and next spring, streets and squares should be free of debris. 11,000 Munich apartments were already repaired. Two and a half million bricks have been won so far from the debris for further use.
In the English garden in the city centre, the rubble is piled up - so that later the Green terraced survey can newly purchase.
The students clean up the damaged University. Everyone contributes to the Elimination of debris before the semester begins.
Now the second semester after the war in the auditorium that is preserved was opened solemnly.
The town's landmark, the Church of our Lady is although severely damaged but preserved. Their domes have a provisional wooden panelling.

06. German Heavyweight Championship ten Hoff suggests MD Nadeem in Hamburg stood in the title battle the German heavyweight, Walter Neusel, champion and his challenger, Hein ten Hoff, opposite.
The fight was over 12 rounds. From the outset the olds Walter Neusel began his routine and combat experience. The 13 years younger ten Hoff, however, tried to wear down his opponent by inserting his range and his dangerous left.
In the second round had ten Hoff to the ground. He was not beaten but and well held out the tempo of the fight.

President Truman welcomes them and expresses to them the thanks of the U.S.

02. Lord Beveridge speaks in Berlin
On his visit to Berlin Lord Beveridge, the famous English social politician and creater of the Beveridge-plan, makes a speech in the "Kindl" brewery of Neukölln by invitation of the Berlin High School.
Lord Beveridge welcomes the audience in German - which he already learned in 1907 when he was here for the first time.

In English, Lord Beveridge then speaks on "Social Security and Labour".
As a principle of social justice he maintains that bread and health for all is more important than cake and other luxuries for a few.

03. Camerareport from Munich
Reconstruction in Munich: with crane and shovel, the removal of 5 million cubic meters of rubble, inheritance of the Hitler regime, has been started. Up to now more than half a million cubic meters have been removed and till next spring, streets and squares are to be completely cleared of debris. 11.000 Munich dwellings have been repaired already, another 25.000, partly destroyed, can be repaired. Two and a half million bricks were already saved from the rubble, to be used again for rebuilding. In the "English Garden", situated in the heart of the town, the rubble is piled up - so that new terraced lawns may be created in times to come. Students clear the damaged University. Before the new terms begins everyone has to do his bit in the removal of debris.
Meanwhile, the second postwar term was solemnly inaugurated in the undamaged hall.
The landmark of the city, the Frauenkirche, is heavily damaged but preserved. The characteristic round towers have received a provisional wooden roof.
The Theatiner Church - also damaged - and the Feldherrnhalle. The commemorative tablets of the "Third Reich" have been shattered.
From the Odeonsplatz to the Sterneckerbräu, cradle of the Nazi Party, where the first Party-meetings were held.
The Bürgerbräukeller, in which Hitler started his 1925 putsch and staged the 1939 attempt against his own life. Now an American Red Cross Club has been established in the undamaged rooms.
The Hofbräuhaus ... it still exists. In its garden one may drink the traditional "Stein" - however not yet the stronger variety of the famous brow. This is now the "Brown House", once the shrine of the party, looks to-day.
Nymphenburg-castle, Munichs pearl of the baroque period, has been only little damaged and is again the scene of festivities and the destination of many trippers.
The former "House of German Art" - has now become the site of Munich trade fairs. An export exhibition displays the capacity of Bavarian handicraft.
General Muller, Chief of Military Government for Bavaria, and Minister of Economics Ehrhardt speak at the inauguration ceremony.
The artistic life of Munich, too, strives regain its former high level. Thirteen theatres offer new productions - backed ant promoted by the presence of many well-known stage and screen stars in Munich.
On the occasion of a charity show in aid of the reconstruction of Munich schools some of them could even be seen in the ring of the circus Althoff.

05. Salzburg Festivals:

"Jedermann" (Everyman) on the Domplatz (Cathedral's Square)
On the Salzburg Domplatz one of this year's festivals highlights is the performance of Hugo von Hoffmannsthal's "Jedermann" (Everyman) in the production of Max Reinhardt. Heinz Hilpert is the director.
In the leading roles: Ewald Balser as "Everyman", Frida Richard as his mother and Helene Thimig, Max Reinhardt's widow, as "Faith".
Helene Thimig returned from America after an absence of 10 years, in order to perform again, at the place of her former successes, in the play of the dying of the rich man.

04. England:

Shaw 90 years old
On Bernard Shaw's 90th birthday, the great playright and poet receives not only a flood of congratulations by mail; the news reel Camera, too, visits his English country-home. As may be seen, he meets it with the unimpaired vigour of his original personality.

On the same day, two years ago, a flying bomb dropped in his garden causing only insignificant damage in the field. At the time Shaw said that he hoped for more pleasant birthday presents in the near future. In the meantime his request has been fulfilled.

06. German heavy-weight championship ten Hoff defeats Neusel
In Hamburg the German heavy-weight champion Walter Neusel meets his Challenger Hein ten Hoff.
The bout goes the full 12 rounds. From the start the 39 year old Walter Neusel makes full use of his routine and experience. Ten Hoff, 13 years younger, tries to defeat his opponent by using his longer reach and his powerful left.
In the second round ten Hoff is knocked down but he is not groggy and stands the pace very well. In the last rounds both boxers try in vain to win by a knockout.
Neusel spurts towards the end but ten Hoff has already collected enough points to carry off the title.
40.000 fans cheer ten Hoff, the new German heavyweight Champion ... a worthy successor of the brave loser Neusel.

a. Cloudburst
The most violent thunderstorm for 8 years transforms London streets in a matter of minutes into rushing streams and stormy lakes.
Automobiles and even streetcars disappear temporarlly, wholly of partially, in the waters and pedestrians - particularliy non-swimmers - become tightrope walkers on their way home.
The record cloud-burst was fierce but short - and soon afterwards the metropo1itan floods receded.

b. Helicopter, USA
A new field of activity for the amazing helicopter, the flying "maid of all work".
Equipped with special nozzles they fly over American grain land, threatened by vermin and diseases and sprinkle the young seed with protective chemicals.
This model shows an improved type as the most effective protection for crop and food - the flying "watering car".

c. Chimpanzee circus, USA
The monkeys of St. Louis Zoo have gone a little nuts, there is no doubt about it.
The crazier, the better.
Don't they know that changing is forbidden while in motion?

Before the elections
For the first time in 13 years free, direct and secret elections will again take place - on Sept. 15th in the Gemeinden of the Britisch Occupation Zone and on Oct. 13th in Hamburg und Bremen.
Prerequisite for the right to vote is previous registration in the voting list. The voter has to be 21 years old ... which age he must have attained not later than May 12th 1946.
Everywhere the voters attend the election contentions. Older but particularly the younger people are encourraged - after years of intellectual suppression - to form their own opinion in free debate and discussion and make their decision accordingly.
These pictures demonstrate how the voting takes place. Don't forget to bring your Stammkarte and other identification papers with you.

According to local conditions, several candidates will be directly elected. One peculiarity of the forthcoming elections is that one resp. several designated personalities will be elected rather than a certain party.
Surprise may be caused by the fact that this time there will be no envelopes available for the voting papers. This is due to the general severe paper shortage. Every safeguard, however, has been taken to ensure thatthe secrecy of the election is absolutely and unfailingly preserved.
The polling boxes are sealed after conclusion of the elections and taken to the counting stations in the election districts.
The elections are free, direct and secret. Voter, remember: "Your future depends on your vote!"
