The Christian-Social-Union gained the majority of votes in front of the Social-Democrats, Communists and Liberal-Democrats following at a distance.

02. Aerial Transports New York - Berlin Resumed
On Tempelhof airfield arrives the first passenger plane from America, the four motored "Flagship Amsterdam".
It covered the 3.900 miles distance in 23 hrs and 15 min. at an average speed of 222 m.p.h.
Intermediate landings were made in Newfoundland, Irland, Amsterdam and Frankfurt/o. Main.

04. Reconstruction
Our camera-review of the present state of reconstruction starts in Berlin:
Of 225 large traffic bridges in Berlin 150 were destroyed by bombs and street fighting. At present 40 of these bridges are being reconditioned.
American engineers and German workers are co-operating on the bridge near the Ullstein-House in Tempelhof. Frequently, demolition is the first stage of reconstruction.
Dangerous ruins have to be removed to give way for building sites. In this work women take their full share.
The detonating charge is fixed.
This blasting of the well known passage-house between Möekernbridge and Bulow-Street had to be planned with special precision in order to preserve the overhead railway.
Another blasting in Berlin - a whole block near the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Place in Schöneberg.
New ways of using the rubble for reconstruction were discovered in Wuppertal. This machine transports rubble and stones to the funnel. Another process creates new building material - especially concrete.
This is how Hamburg cleans up. Dredging machines are busy everywhere to clear streets and squares. Cologne even mobilised the street cars to help with the job. Thus conditions are improving slowly but steadily in many towns - and every stone which is cleared away, every hole, which is closed is another step forward in the great task of reconstruction.
Bamberg has almost finished the job. The not too serious damages were repaired with vigour and dispatch. A round trip of the picturesque old town conveys a picture of old beauty and new order.
The streets are clean, trade and traffic are reviving and Old-Bamberg's charm with her odd little streets and corners and waterways remains unbroken as of yore.

Princess Elizabeth christens tanker
In Wearside Princess Elizabeth of England christens a 12.000 ton oil-tanker to the name "British Princess".

Steel-helmets turned into household goods
The Fulda Enamel Works manufacture useful sieves out of obsolete steel-helmets.
First the helmets are formed and the brims removed.

Thousand of steel-helmets are processed in this factory; in addition other household goods in short supply are manufactured such as pots, pans and dishes for bombed-out people and refugees.
The severest war-damages have been repaired and 500 workers are again re-employed here.

a. Air Freight By Parachute
Who lives in America on an isolated farm - far removed from railway station and high-way - can now order his necessities per air freight and the goods are delivered by parachute.
American pilots who fought in Burma and China operate the new air service.
The first freight for lonely prairie-dwellers consisted of food and household goods. (Glass and chinaware were not included.)
