The Socialist Felix Gouin was elected his successor by a strong majority. He is 62 years old. Gouin was one of the French delegates who voted against the Pétain's Armistice vigorously.

03. Peace In China
General Marshall, United States Ambassador, arrives in Nanking to lend his efforts to the medidation of China's domestic strife. He is welcomed by Generalissimo Chiang Kai Shek. Their united efforts finally result in arranging an armistic between the warring factions. Generalissimo Chiang Kai Shek and his wife entertain General Marshall in their house. Planes of the U.S. Air Force are employed in the transport of Chinese troops to remote districts, flying over the great Wall of China. These troops have the job of rounding up Japanese stragglers and of restoring Chinese administration.
After almost 20 years of war China looks hopefully towards a united and peacefull future.

06. U N O For Security of World Peace
The British United Nations Association invited the delegates of the UNO to a great rally at the Albert Hall in London.
Field Marshall Alexander was in the chair. Mr. Roosevelt called on all women of the world to cooperate in the task of securing the security of world peace.
This is the UNO Security Council which hammers out the practical, down-to earth details of how to banish war. The treatment of the Greek and Indonesian problems were the first decisive proof of the Councils efficiency. The assembly of many thousands of UNO members was a mighty demonstration of the idea: never again shall a war devastate this globe. The General Assembly wound up the conference after 36 days, to reassemble in New York on the 3rd of September.
The president of the General Assembly, Spaak, concluded the final meeting with the statement, that all 51 nations have shown the sincere desire to cooperate. Therefore, he could give the world a message of confidence and hope.
